Binary: If you ever, and I mean EVER, throw stuff out again, don't throw it out until you've tried to find a buyer. OCAU, eBay, etc. Tehre'll be people to buy stuff.

afaik, fibre is the next step up, and well... that's mega expensive!!! wth throwing out gigabit switches?! crazy...

Fiber isn't the next step up, it's just another medium that can deliver the same speeds, just in most circumstances over longer distances.

However, They probably moved to something with 10GB backbones, or some kind of blade switching unit for a faster back plane.... As a wild stab.
