Respawn LAN Forums _ General Stuff _ Respawn notifier upgrade

Posted by: Prim Jul 18 2011, 11:39 AM

Hey guys,

Not sure who is in charge of the respawn notifier, but it could use an upgraded feature. A way to find games people want to play multiplayer. Here's what I had in mind:

- Anyone can post (could have to be approved by admin, or if disapproved in case of troll, permaban from feature)
- Post game, timeframe, ip (or how to join server), and any other notes
- Could also be used for funcomps and similar (currently you say comp is running on IP x once and if you aren't listening you miss out on comp)

How does this sound? If it can't be done by you guys, mind if I make it myself and you help put it on the shared folder for easy spreading?

This way when people want to play obscure games, it should be easy to find a partner and make the lan more than just CSS and Team fortress.

Cheers,
Primoz

http://respawn.com.au/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=1573&view=findpost&p=13695 a request like this was asked, it was stated IRC would cover this functionality. Was Respawn running an IRC server at V21?

That would be Squid, Sando and me. Thanks for the feedback! This is an interesting idea and we're investigating it further.

Didn't it occur that if you wanted to do something independent then you could just go to respawn.lan durring the event and make a topic?

Although, i think guides would be a great idea. things such as how to backup/ maintain game files/servers.

Mike - if I want to do something, doing it in a forum during the lan is too late already.

squid/sando/wolf - has this been done? biggrin.gif

A server browser might also be handy. After a quick google, something like this: http://www.qtracker.com/

I've never used it, but it might be handy smile.gif

Would it be too complex to integrate every kind of server? Given they all respond in different ways?

Wolfmo codes pretty well, so he might have some code-ninja skills that are unreavealed!

If you are after a third party server browser that supports multiple games and servers, that has both LAN and web support, I suggest HLSW, oohms recently put me onto it and I have become quite a fan.
