Hey guys, haven't been to Respawn in almost a year so heres hoping the Cod4 comp runs smoothly once again!
The COD4 community over at CyberGamer has interest from a few top teams so we should be representing out in force!
Just letting you know in case you weren't aware: the latest promod is PromodLive 2.11 NE, which can be downloaded here;
http://www.codpromod.com/2011/02/finally-promod-live-2-11/#more-249
Also, the popular competitive maps in the AusCOD scene atm are;
-Strike
-Crash
-Backlot
-Citystreets/District
-Crossfire
-Ravens (custom map)
-Inferno (custom map)
Part of the reason for this post is to suggest the idea of putting those two custom maps in the rotation (I know the current CG comp is using them + the upcoming invite leages will have those maps). I guess some of the more casual teams won't have the map so it should be in for the later rounds of the comp.
The maps can be downloaded from here;

Hopefully the comp is double-elimination again, that worked really well last time.
And finally, one of CG's COD4 Admins will be attending the LAN. His name is Hektik and he will be available to assist oohms or whoever is hosting the COD4 comp this time round.
Just giving you a heads up of what the competitive scene is like at the moment. I don't mean to be all pushy but would be nice if the comp was run in this standard (and it pretty much was like this last Respawn). Should be an amazing comp, I know we have a few players flying from interstate to represent their team so should be a great day.
Anyways let me know what you guys think and what you have in store for the COD4 comp this time round
Thanks for reading

tl;dr:
I put forth these suggestions to have a successful/competitive COD4 comp:
-Run in latest promod (PromodLive2.11 NE)
-Run map rotation of: Strike, Crash, Backlot, Citystreets, Crossfire
-Include custom maps Ravens and Inferno in the final rounds of the comp
-Run comp in double-elimination
My name is Uber and I approve this message
Zantikk: For Comp changes etc, email deadman [at] respawn [com] [au] and he'll implement it if he thinks it can be done etc. he's the comps admin.
Cheers
When will the actual event schedule be released?
The event schedule is usually released closer to the event when times are confirmed with sponsors, the e-sports teams that are competing etc so people get to see, play and enjoy..
An announcement is made so don't panic!
Hektik is an admin now? i'm sure deadman can run a comp just fine
just to confirm my email is actually dead_man[@]respawn.com.au
i dont mind runnig the custom maps. will change things around a bit. but ill make sure we have some prac servers running for the custom maps for ppl to get used to them. and also so they can DL them before the comp
im pretty sure hektik has been to respawn in the past but i could be mistaken.
@Deadman Ah, sent a email to no one then haha. And yes Hektik has been to a few Respawns in the past. And thanks
@Frookie, Yes he is an admin. And why so defencive? IIRC at one Respawn we had trouble with setting up the match config for the servers and Hektik supplied the right command line. Deadman generally has a lot on his plate and AFAIK accepts volunteers to help (Omen helped a few comps I believe). Anyways it was JUST a suggestion and I haven't even spoke to Hektik about it (I bet he just wants to rock up and play COD and not have to worry about any admin work anyways)...
lol Look at them all crawl out the woodwork, I say screw the custom maps. The map cycle should be announced at the event and be random.
If the map rotation is annonced to the public (ie using the Respawn forum) before the event then eveyone has the chance to read it and train up on those maps. If they dont read the forums then chances are they are not that interested in the comp anyway. I think putting a list of maps to be played on here is a good idea.
Some of the stock maps are pretty shit for competitive play.. i will discuss with deadman about custom maps, otherwise i'll stick with the current maplist.
Will update to promod 2.11 NE (if we have any issues we'll run 2.07)
That is and has been the case for most games adapted for competitive play, still think it would be good to have a different format at a live event to the standard ladder.
Say people rock up at 10.00am Intel is given and the teams have a set amount of time to develop a strategy. I guess kinda run it like a mission, amateur ladder Pro's don't seem to be able to think out the box, Take this whole topic it is generally designed to make a comp as close as possible to a CG ladder.
i will use these new custom maps in the comp unless there are to many complaints on the day
we will also run a couple of servers with only the new maps in rotation for ppl to prac on
Agree with everything except the use of custom maps.
