QUOTE (aNx @ Aug 26 2011, 09:09 PM) *
I just dont understand how the first respawn I went to cash prize was $500, and now the entry fee is more.. and the prize is less.

It's quite confusing. Without the players the even would be nothing - clearly. Yet, where is the incentives for competitive gamers to come or even the casual gamer? Leeching alone is not worth the $35 ticket.

I remember for 1 or 2 Respawns it went up to $750 then went back down... huh.gif

I support this.

With better prizes the amount teams will most definitely grow.

Even with the current prizes the cod4 comp attracts around 12 teams (on average 4 competitive + 8 casual teams).

At the moment the rest of the AusCOD community can't justify coming down to a BYOC comp (with $35 entry) to win 5x $50 headsets.

Have a look @ SGL Lan in Sydney. They manage to get the right sponsors to be able to give away 5x $250 graphic cards for their 1st prize cod4 comp.

Honestly, with better prizes the community will start taking this seriously and could possibly see 8+ competitive teams coming down to play.

Just a slightly relevant question:

How safe is my laptop at Respawn? Usually I bring my desktop but this time round I am bringing my laptop. Obviously a laptop is an easy target for potential thieves.... has anyone had problems with leaving their laptops at their table unattended?

Is there anything I can purchase to make it more secure (locks etc.) ?

Any word on this happening at v20?

I remember playing in this a while back @ the last Respawn I attended and it was loads of fun.

Also hoping that you guys still run a public GunGame COD4 server too because it was fun to play in between comp games.

lol Look at them all crawl out the woodwork, I say screw the custom maps. The map cycle should be announced at the event and be random.

...

Sounds like a great way to run a competitive comp of CoD4....

You do realize half the maps on COD4 arn't actually well-balanced for competitve play?

Respawn has a good reputation with the Cod community and it will all go down the drain if your suggestion is ever taken into consideration.

Nice. Will good see some familiar faces from the COD community there.

Question: Will this coincide with the COD4 comp run @ Respawn? I might be participating for both if my team qualifies for BO...

@Deadman Ah, sent a email to no one then haha. And yes Hektik has been to a few Respawns in the past. And thanks biggrin.gif

@Frookie, Yes he is an admin. And why so defencive? IIRC at one Respawn we had trouble with setting up the match config for the servers and Hektik supplied the right command line. Deadman generally has a lot on his plate and AFAIK accepts volunteers to help (Omen helped a few comps I believe). Anyways it was JUST a suggestion and I haven't even spoke to Hektik about it (I bet he just wants to rock up and play COD and not have to worry about any admin work anyways)...

Hey guys, haven't been to Respawn in almost a year so heres hoping the Cod4 comp runs smoothly once again!

The COD4 community over at CyberGamer has interest from a few top teams so we should be representing out in force!

Just letting you know in case you weren't aware: the latest promod is PromodLive 2.11 NE, which can be downloaded here;

http://www.codpromod.com/2011/02/finally-p...-2-11/#more-249

Also, the popular competitive maps in the AusCOD scene atm are;
-Strike
-Crash
-Backlot
-Citystreets/District
-Crossfire
-Ravens (custom map)
-Inferno (custom map)

Part of the reason for this post is to suggest the idea of putting those two custom maps in the rotation (I know the current CG comp is using them + the upcoming invite leages will have those maps). I guess some of the more casual teams won't have the map so it should be in for the later rounds of the comp.

The maps can be downloaded from here;

http://www.cybergamer.com.au/files/209/
http://www.cybergamer.com.au/files/656/

Hopefully the comp is double-elimination again, that worked really well last time.

And finally, one of CG's COD4 Admins will be attending the LAN. His name is Hektik and he will be available to assist oohms or whoever is hosting the COD4 comp this time round.

Just giving you a heads up of what the competitive scene is like at the moment. I don't mean to be all pushy but would be nice if the comp was run in this standard (and it pretty much was like this last Respawn). Should be an amazing comp, I know we have a few players flying from interstate to represent their team so should be a great day.

Anyways let me know what you guys think and what you have in store for the COD4 comp this time round smile.gif

Thanks for reading

~zantikK

tl;dr:
I put forth these suggestions to have a successful/competitive COD4 comp:
-Run in latest promod (PromodLive2.11 NE)
-Run map rotation of: Strike, Crash, Backlot, Citystreets, Crossfire
-Include custom maps Ravens and Inferno in the final rounds of the comp
-Run comp in double-elimination

Keen!

Hopefully COD4 comp is run just as successfully as previous one.

I've made a thread over at CyberGamer forums addressing the COD4 community (hopefully admins can answer any questions that arise tongue.gif)

My point wasn't to block filesharing.

I understand that around 95%+ of the people that come Respawn fileshare, regardless if they play games or not.

My idea is to promote a larger population of Respawn who actually come to play games and compete in the competitions. My initial idea was to adjust the signup so that it is easiar for teams to get into Respawn and actually compete in the comps (this idea was highly debated in another thread).

It really is a confusing situation and I guess it really is up to the admins to decide what to do from here.

As for Respawn 16, I really enjoyed it. Another successful event with a great CoD4 comp.

My dislike was the shoutcasting over the PA. Yea I enjoyed GameStah casting the CS Final, but not everyone wants to hear it, especially when I'm playing the COD finals. It would be better if you could broadcast the shoutcast over the network (maybe through VLC somehow?). Same goes for the cast over the PA for the COD Grand Final.

This is just a general discussion point and not directly related to v16 but more to Respawn itself.

It frustrates me that Respawn has turned into a massive Leech fest where it seems only 40% or so come to play games. In my previous threads I've been told Respawn isn't going to be "competition focused" and that people come for the "LANning atmosphere/party", in other words, leech a shitload and maybe catchup with a few onlines mates.

In posting this, I know I will get flamed by the Respawn veterans that come to respawn just to leech. But I'd really like to see Respawn become more gaming focused because it has so much potential.

Once again, thanks to the admins for running another successful CoD4 competition. It was quite enjoyable.

I thought I'd direct you to a writeup of the Grand Final posted by Hektik from Team Legacy over @ Cybergamer.com

Check it out

has lan been confirmed?

In the old UI (they just upgraded to a new UI) there was a grayed out LAN button. So I'm assuming there is.

The game probably won't be released till late this year or even early 2011.

HoN is amazing. Hopefully we can see a comp running at the next Respawn when the game is officially released.

At the moment the game is in CLOSED BETA which doesn't allow for LAN play.

On the topic of new games, I would also like to see a comp for Battlefield Bad Company 2 at future respawns because this game is going to be MASSIVE.

hon will be in open beta in just over a days time

Regardless, there won't be LAN support until the game is released ...

Hopefully we see a return of the COD4 GunGame minicomp!

That was heaps fun tongue.gif

EDIT: And to the admins. I don't think its mentioned in this thread, but we fixed the punkbuster issue @ the last Respawn by running it in LAN mode by using this command:

promod_mode lan_mr12

instead of

promod_mode match_mr12
