Warcraft 2, Can anyone say battle.net server? Options

Why, hello there!

If I were to set up a battle.net server, would anyone be interested in playing Warcraft II? (The battle.net server is the only way I can find to make Warcraft II to use TCP/IP, as Vista x64 doesn't support IPX)

If said battle.net server was running, this also opens the possibility to have a Diablo II ladder.

I thought you can just play warcraft II over LAN without the need for a battlenet server. Same with diablo II..

Over LAN, Warcraft II only supports IPX/SPX. If you have XP x86 this is fine (Hell, even Vista x86 can be coersed in to using IPX if you give it XP's IPX drivers).

The only way I could find to make Warcraft II to use TCP/IP (which is a requirement if you use Vista x64) is to set up a psuedo battle.net server.

And diablo II does do TCP over LAN, so it will just work. But you can run a ladder or what not with Diablo II if you use a Battle.Net server (seemed quite popular at the last LAN I ran).

ahh well shows how long its been since i played warcraft 2. Thanks for the explanation.
