I was wondering what do you think is the better price, quality, perfomance etc graphic card brand?

My personal thoughts that Nvidia is better for they are much cheaper where ati just crank up the prices and have just a little better performance.

Your thoughts???

its all about personal preference really.

a trade off between price and performance.

I'm a nvidia fan atm, but i'll consider ATI if the price and performance is right smile.gif

Nvidia's 3D IQ is a bit lower then ATI IMHO, but performance and game compatibility is higher and they are more frequent with driver updates. Nvidia win with 2D IQ (DVD playback etc) though.

i was open to either range but upon reading reviews for the motherboard i purchased i found that the ATI cards were having problems and as a result i went for nvidia which has been stable as a rock.

my advice: read reviews for all your computer components and make sure they work well together or be prepared to fiddle if you really want certain components

id say nvidia only because most game makers still give the highest support to them.

I like Nvidia and AMD the most. I've witnessed myself a slower AMD beat a faster Pentium in performance. Video cards I'm not really bothered about but I feel more loyalty to Nvidia then ATI as my first card as a GF4 MX 440 smile.gif

I've also seen Nvidia perform as well or slightly better then ATI in games so I'll stick with them.

While ATI may have some cool features and stuff, I've seen some real issues with their cards too.

For example, they may be doing a good job now, but their drivers could still use a bit of work and are still sub par (nVidia are still going well now).

Basically my housemate and I have both bought new cards recently, mine being a 6600GT and his being an X1600.
For some reason, the drivers for his card wouldn't install whilst a 2nd display device was connected (not just on his machine it seems) and even after installation it just won't display anything on device 2.

Compare that to my 6600GT which installed with no issues and does a nice job in dualview, no hastles.

Of course often your motherboard can push you towards a particular card, for example if you've got an nforce type board, it's not really wise to go buying an ATI card, especially not if you want to Crossfire it with another one, but buying an nVidia card instead will usually work fine.

Hmm yes... well like a said i think that Nvidia is better and at the moment i have a Nvidia GeForce 7800 Gt with a nForce 4 sli mother board. by the way whats the difference between a normal and sli?

and i have an Amd chip aswell (2.4ghz) but ive been to the wesites saying that pentium has combined with nvidia and amd combined with ati, is that correct? and then wouldnt ati work better with amd chips and vice versa?

ATi would be alright if it wasn't for their shitty drivers.

Seriously, FUCK Catalyst Control Center.

Basically you get two of the same card and hook them up as SLI, gives you a huge performance increase, more video ram, processing power etc and even the opportunity to hook up more monitors (although I'm happy with two myself, I'd have to put my printer elsewhere to have a 3rd).

But to compare the two strains of cards is kinda difficult as they'd have to be able to pull off the same tricks such as similar HDR modes and so on.
In some things my 6600GT out-performs the x1600, but that's because it's physically got more grunt such as memory bandwidth (GDDR3 clocked currently at 1035 up from 900) and a different layout of pipelines.
But with newer stuff requiring techniques the GF6x00 series doesn't have his kicks arse.

Basically his also has the advantage of having a dualcore p4 compared to my '3000+' but I still manage to keep up.

SLI usually gives you 30-45% more power by hooking up the 2 cards by an SLI bridge.

You can have say 2 SLI'd 6600GT's perform as well as say a single 7xxx series card. 2 6600GT's would be cheaper for the same or better performance.

Same deal with the ATI crossfire setup.

Sando: ATI's drivers suck absolute dick too.

There's only two things I've actually noticed different between the two card lines, both of which are +1 nVidia: nVidia give you linux drivers that actually work quite well, and ATI have much stricter shader compiling requirements. For most people neither of these matter.

Ok, just look at the two Nvidia and Ati, witch are competing for the top dog in GPU's At the moment. ATI is about to bring out the long awaited R600 seriese but Nvidia will kick them in the face with the long awaited 8900 Series.

nvidia kicks arse and allways will..

Of course the drawbacks of using SLI/Crossfire include:
  • Double power usage
  • Double Heat
  • Double Noise
  • A lot less space for expansion cards (especially for double slots GPUs)
  • Doesn't always perform as well as a single card for the combined price (or less), although this depends on many factors, such as the types of cards and game etc.
  • Different games take more or less advantage of an SLI setup, some even suffer from a Dual GPU setup.

But SLI does certainly help run games at above 1920 where all but the chunkiest GPUs struggle with newer games.

Anyhow my 2c.
