Respawn LAN Forums _ Computers _ New Case

Posted by: Shub0xx May 28 2010, 10:57 PM

Good evening everyone,

I am currently in the hunt for a new case. Would love to get a full tower, but since I'm limited for space I'm restricted to a mid tower or smaller.

I currently have a Tt V9, but have had issues with it and don't want to use it for my next build.

Any suggestions as to what I look into???

If it's for your next build, what parts are you looking at for that build?

Also, what's your budget?

Not sure on both yet, so for the case let's say no more than $150-160.

I spent $1.5k on my last rig, but that was everything (monitor etc).

Well, I respect what R4N did.

Get a mini-itx mobo, (Zotac H55 is very nice), i5 750, decent gpu, Lian Li cube (space for up to 28cm of expansion cards), your set.

I know this may not be R4Ns exact build, but it's a very nice lanbox.

Using pccasegear.com for pricelists:
Intel Core i5 750 $245
Zotac H55-ITX WiFi H55ITX-A-E Mini-ITX Motherboard $198
Galaxy GeForce GTX 470 1280MB $429
Lian Li PC-V351 Black $161
Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5C (2x2GB) DDR2 $149
Corsair HX-650 Power Supply CMPSU-650HX $159
Migrate HDDs and Optical $Free
Total: $1346.00

You could get a much better price by shopping around, but that build is really small, 279mm x 262mm x 373cm.

Only thing is, I am not sure if that case takes full sized ATX power supplies, but as I have seen nothing to the contrary, I am assuming it does.
Also that case only has room for 2 harddrives and 2 opticals.

Since I'm just looking atm, I have a few questions for fellow respawner's.

What is better, PSU at the top or the bottom? Pros/cons for both..

Has anyone heard of aerocool for cases and PSU's? r they any good, or have there been noticable issues with them?

If I decided to get a case with a black interior, wot would u suggest for mb, considering I'm currently looking at either an i5 or i7 for this build. Who is better, gigabyte or asus?

Posted by: priorax May 29 2010, 09:59 PM

Bottom is better, I knew why, but I have forgotten

I've been offered (someone else's money, so not saying no lol) a choice between an aerocool Cyborg X ( http://www.aerocool.com.tw/pgs/pgs-r/cyborgx.htm ) and a BX-500 ( http://www.aerocool.com.tw/pgs/pgs-b/bx500.htm ).

Thoughts on both please? I like the cyborg cos of the black interior, but i like the 500 cos of the potential of running up to 10 fans.

I dunno anymore. Is it worth spending too much on a case? it's not like it does anything other than hide everything inside.

In that case, I have a cardboard box I am willing to part with for no less than $100. For an extra $10.46 I can spray paint it black.

Ur Cheeky lol.
Nah, I have plenty of cardboard boxes that could do the job if I choae to go down that path.

I was wondering to myself if it's really necessary to but a "flash" case when a standard box would do the same job.

I put this
inside of this

I now have such power I can control this.

Tank Edit: WTF!? seriously you people need to grow up. You guys have already been warned about being banned once, this is your second warning.

R4N Edit: You've copped a 1 month stint in the sinbin, next time its permaban.

Zardoz Edit: Editing because a) I feel left out and b ) because you guys are devaluing the forums by making a complete mess of them. Behave.

I'm getting real bored of my Antec p182... thinking about getting the Coolermaster HAF 932 when I have enough cash for it.

Posted by: priorax Jun 10 2010, 02:16 PM

I'm donating my Antec 900 to my mate, I hated it. Loving my Lian Li Lancool PC-K60 though.

It's definitely a solid case. Pity it's so heavy, otherwise it'd be the perfect case.

Posted by: TechL Jun 10 2010, 04:43 PM

Yeah, I love the case and all but it may be time to get a new one soon.

Question for everyone.....

Fans at the top of the case. Does it make a significant difference in temperature?
