Respawn LAN Forums _ General Stuff _ proposition to change pizza places

Posted by: Micah Jun 30 2010, 08:49 PM

I have been to 4 Respawns now and still wonder why people order domino's cardboard shithouse pizza? there are 2 pizza shops both within 5mins drive of Respawn that both do homemade pizzas and free delivery and yet you keep ordering from dominos?

Sure the pizzas are $2-3 more but you get what you pay for, a pizza that doesn't taste like cardboard with cheese on-top.

i think tank was saying that it would be hard for a small business to keep up with demand, but that might just be me

Posted by: Micah Jun 30 2010, 09:04 PM

If we let them know at say 2-3pm im sure they would easily be able to do it, and they would love the business.

Fun fact: we order over 100 pizzas.

We can't even give Dominos a few hours notice. We have to contact them at least two weeks prior, and talk to the manager in order to guarantee we have all of the pizzas we need.

You're more than welcome to order your pizzas separately, but for the moment Dominos is what we have to use. smile.gif

Having worked in a pizza shop for about 18 months, I can tell u it's a lot harder to be prepared for 100+ pizzas for a special order, as well as keep up with the normal Saturday night load.

While I agree Dominos is not the best, as Squid said there's no reason y u couldn't order elsewhere. Maybe forward the suggestion to the admin team for them to investigate for the next event.

I would be prepared to talk to them about it if you don't want too. I can setup contacts so all you need to do is ring them 1-2 weeks prior to respawn and say we are going to need about this many pizzas and go from there. Buying so many pizzas would defiantly bring the price down per pizza and you could charge menu price while getting them at discount price (like I'm sure what you do with Cardboardo's)

Posted by: Wrath-of-Jupiter Jun 30 2010, 10:02 PM

Hmm, from the respawns i've gone too, i've known Domino's was the option, and I gotta agree that Pizza hut does it better.. Now perhaps this particular lan is locked in, and maybe too hard to change details on.. but perhaps something can be arranged next lan, or maybe some sort of notice on the intranet where a vote can occur.. I dunno..

What ever the case, it would be nice to have pizza hut as an option for pizza.. This lan however I'm just gonna stick to my usuall plan and get a pizza from that pizza shop "Santino's" nearby the Safeway just down plenty road.

Posted by: Guni Jun 30 2010, 10:15 PM

Im fine with dominoes. im not picky. How much will the pizzas be, ruftly?

Posted by: Jeffy Jun 30 2010, 10:23 PM

SirSquid has summarised most of this but I'm going to make a few points (being an ex-manager of a pizza place) and also helping with the event logistics...

1. sure there are other places out there, but we have negotiated rates with Domino's that have been in place for quite a number of events.

2. We don't just sever a deal with a supplier because "pizzas taste badly". They provide us with 100-150 pizzas at 7pm WITHOUT fail. Despite the Saturday rush. Even if the admin team (and I'm not an admin for the record but know some of the thought processes)... Can this new supplier (home made) keep a promise to offer/deliver 100 pizzas PRECISELY at 7pm without fail and stuff up. (As someone who has run a Domino's in another area and serviced similar clients like Respawn, this is a feat that is highly impossible without precise pre-planning)

3. The team offer you a deal at $8 delivered. You really couldn't get a pizza delivered to you at the event for $8 yourself. Sure for $2-3 more you might be able to go and get a "home made pizza" yourself. But alot of the orderers don't drive. Or really tbh driving to get it.

Comparison for you....

Standard Domino's Pizza delivered: $14.95 (standard crust/toppings - Ie: Meatosaurus)
- Even if you use an $8 coupon, it's still MINIMUM $15 DELIVERY so they stack on an $8 delivery charge to make the minimum.
Respawn Domino's Pizza delivered: $8.00 (same deal) - NO COUPON REQUIRED - Just a polite smile, with please/thank you's when paying and collecting from Tank.

I don't know what the others charge, but I highly doubt you'll get 1 x Single pizza delivered for $10-11 to you thats "fresh, hot and home-made" as you pointed out in the current market place.

Posted by: xevious Jun 30 2010, 10:23 PM

You can suggest this as much as you want but it wont change anything.

i remember tank telling me that a mum&Dad pizza shop wouldnt cope with all the orders.

domifail has more staff on and there pizzas are prettymuch bam bam bam done..
cheap and nasty

wont happen anytime soon but the pizza place a few doors up from domifail has some nice ass pizza

we go there every respawn.

Lyk Hai, I think that's what it is, don't quote me 100% but i'm fairly confident that price hasn't changed. I'll PM tank and get her to put her 2c on here so that everyone knows for transparency

I feel sorry for your digestive system.

Eating a single pizza from them is bad enough, but 5?!

I... I'd almost drive you somewhere to get you some real food (but I'm doing my hair that night)

Last time i think i got domino's from a place that didn't do the respawn orders and it was pretty good

I think ordering that many pizzas on a sat night anywhere will get you sub par pizza

note, i'll probably get respawn dominos this time, unless i forget again

Haven't Dominoes come out with a new recipe for their pizzas that includes more toppings etc? I haven't tried it yet. How is it?

Posted by: Tank Jul 1 2010, 10:50 AM

Wow, lol. this comes up so often.

I believe this was even investigated before i came onto the admin scene, and back then we were only looking for ~60 pizzas. And we basically said we wanted 60 pizzas delivered at 7pm and they laughed. something like that tongue.gif

The only reason domino's manage to do it for us is because they bring on extra staff, and we ring them way in advance (we make the order at 4pm tongue.gif) (and let them know ages before the event we're going to be doing it.)

and they do it for $8 a pizza. delivered. 100 pizzas pretty much all at once. which is pretty damn cheap. i cant even get a small garlic pizza at my local awesome place.

Long story short, it just makes life so much easier and painless if we go with domino's. the deal has been in place for many events now, and it's always worked.

You are more than free to go out and get your own pizza, we're not going to be offended smile.gif

Feel free to keep asking questions however smile.gif i will do my best to answer them.

(also it's 2 days before the event.... so the only thing we could do would look for a different place for NEXT event.)

Also i just looked at pizza hut, there are no stores near Bundoora. I would look into it further, but since there is no where close i dont think that particular option is one we can look into.

There is a pizza hut in Rosanna. 2-116 lower plenty road. But as yourself and squid both stated, it wouldn't b an option for this event as a mass order. They do deliver, but not sure what they would charge per pizza.

Posted by: Guni Jul 1 2010, 05:44 PM

Can we just leave it at dominoes srsly. All this talk of pizza is making me hungry :/

Posted by: Kitfox Jul 2 2010, 04:32 AM

Dominoes have actually changed their recipes quite a bit. it was on TV and all. i was forced to get a dominoes pizza about a week ago and i *gasp* found it edible. even somewhat nice.

EDIT: f you dont want pizza, there is a maccas up the road, and a KFC somewhere too.

Also there is Northland about a 4 min drive (McD, KFC, Various shops including Salsas), Greensborough about 8 min drive (KFC, McD, Various Shops), Red Rooster on Plenty Road (Along with kebab/pizza/fish&chips) heading towards city about 3 min drive, Nandos on plenty road (along with fish & chips, pizza, noodle bar & the bundy hotel) at bundy square, away from city with KFC/Hungry Jacks further up the road.. and if you are REALLY desperate for food.. there is a Mcd & Hungry Jacks & KFC on Dalton Road (take the freeway/settlement rd)

And that doesn't include other small takeaways in the area...

Well im 17 and im coming with about 3 friends and my younger brother. Anyway we've decided that we'd bring food with us but also make trips to Maccas and order Pizza if required. It really isn't that much of a Dilemma not being able to drive anywhere for food.

If there wanting to eat something other than Maccas or Pizza because they maybe a fussy eater or even a vegetarian and the options supplied for Maccas and Pizza are not adequate there is always the BBQ were Tank cooks up some vegetarian options and IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH i guess just supply your own food.

Theirs always a solution to not being able to drive, plus im not sure if i would grab a lift with a stranger. Not to fond on the whole rusty van car pool :/

HELL YES! Dominos taste like fucking garbage, by far the worst Pizza i have ever had and the best would be La Porchetta in Reservoir.

Subway catering is ordering platters of third size sandwitchs. You DONT pick whats on them you DONT pick anything abotut hem and they are ALWAYS shit oversauced and sloppy. I worked at subway for 2 years, trust me wink.gif

Pizza hut pizza's are much better than dominos.

I stopped participating in the respawn pizza run as soon as i turned 18 and got my P's - I usually drive to maccas/subway/another pizza place.

If it's too hard don't worry about it, but i'd rather more money/time be put into this (investigating pizza hut, maybe even a smaller store if they think they are up to the challenge, subway catering is actually not such a bad idea!) instead of trying to do pointless stuff like organize healthy food to be sold
