..should I bring it to respawn?
Damn, the dual Voodoo2's,and SCSI setup beats my old P200 (with MMX!) configuration. Up until a week ago that was my main machine since the AthlonXP 1800+ stopped booting a few months earlier
Over the last few months I researched many upgrade paths and settled on this midrange setup:
- Asus M2N-X motherboard
- AMD AM2 X2 4000+ (rated 2.1GHz)
- 2GB kit of Corsair Value ram, 667MHz operating frequency.
- Donated nVidia 7300LE, 512mb DDR2.
As expected, it met my design criteria of at least a 50% improvement over the last machine. Planned upgrade to the VGA is a 7600GT, for a total system cost of $380. A Counter Strike Source VGA stress test showed about 59 FPS at 1024x768, max quality, no anti-aliasing. Approximately 30 FPS better than the last machine, and I have yet to update the VGA, so I'm very happy with this setup
I'll be running the PCMark benchmark to put a number on that improvement.
Operating systems: OS/2, Windows 98SE and Windows 2000, though Windows 98SE craps out on startup due to "Insufficient Memory". I am investigating a registry edit which should allow 98 to boot. There are just some old games that run better on 98SE, such as Recoil
Oh, and I'll be bringing the P200 as well. With a new 48bit LBA IDE card, it should make an excellent file server.
