Respawn LAN Forums _ Gaming _ Update your TF2/L4D/CSS!

THEN DO IT AGAIN SATURDAY MORNING BEFORE YOU LEAVE JUST TO MAKE SURE

Seriously, there was a MASSIVE Left 4 Dead 1/2 update the other day, and quite a large TF2 one last week, as well as a couple of small CSS ones. I cannot urge the importance of updating your steam games before you come to respawn!

Thank you for update smile.gif

Steam seems to release most of its updates on Friday nights, which has caused untold amounts of grief for a variety of LANs. You can't download updates at the LAN, so you'd be wise to follow TheTacoMan's advice.

I always make a point of doing this.

We cannot, however, upload a copy of the steam client. So make sure that, if none of the games, Steam itself is up to date!

How do I check for updates? Or will having steam open let it update it self?

Posted by: SirSquidness Oct 7 2010, 06:00 PM

Go to Steam (the menu) -> Check for Steam Client Updates. Regardless of what it says, restart steam. Do both steps again.

Steam client updates aren't too big an issue for me, as I can just plug my phone into my PC and use it as a modem to update (which I did last Respawn).

As for the games mentioned, I don't play any of those at Respawn so it's not an issue here either. smile.gif

Someone who uses steam, but doesn't play one of the 'big three'? What do you use it for then?

Steam is so much more than a Licence manager.

Err... I have all 3 of those games, I just don't like/play them.
CSS came with HL2 -- and it's garbage.
TF2 came in the Orange Box -- too arcadey and cartoony for my liking.
L4D looked interesting, and was... for about 3 hours... then it lost its appeal when everything got VERY samey.

Otherwise, I generally use it for cheaper games, obviously.
I only have a handful of Valve games on my Steam account... the rest, non-Valve games!

How about that!

I do my best to avoid anything Nintendo related.

We will have the updates shared as always

Posted by: Ezkaton Oct 9 2010, 09:35 AM

I noticed this morning my CSS updated with a 1.4mb update, and TF2 is currently downloading a 69.4mb update (and I always have my Steam running, so they must be fresh and new?)
